Duplicating Items
From TrackerProducts Wiki
>> Quick Menu > Add New Item to Existing Case # > Existing Items / Duplicate Item
The Duplicating Item feature was added to streamline the item entry process. Users can duplicate previously created items to make new items. It's also possible to edit these newly created duplicated items before submitting them. This option puts users on the fast track when entering information into the system because it removes the need to retype the same information over and over into the system. Do it once and let Tracker's system handle the rest.
There are two ways to duplicate a item:
- While creating an item, click the Save Item and Duplicate to New Item or
- Click the Add New Item to Existing case from the Quick Menu, Type in a Case #, and then pick an item to duplicate from the Existing Items / Duplicate Item button at the top of the page.
The only field that is not duplicated when selecting this option is the temporary or permanant location field. Users must select a location with each item entry to prevent the error of accidentally duplicating the same item repeatedly.
(Note: One of the most common mistakes in the Tracker system is creating too many items when duplicating existing items. Emphasize to your users that they need to pay particular attention when duplicating items to avoid creating too many new items.)
