Bucket List

Definition
The bucket list was designed for two purposes. First, to allow users to quickly complete common transactions from any place in the system. Second, to allow a user to more easily control item(s) by placing those items in a virtual list. In a police world this may be a list of items waiting for destruction or pending approval for removal. In other industries you may simply group items into various lists for later use. The bucket system essentially allows each user to create their own lists and then strategically place items in those lists.
Prior to the bucket system, a user would have to modify the properties of each item in order to change things like the category or status of each item. This could prove to be a time consuming process when modifying multiple items. This process became more cumbersome if an item fell under multiple categories or statuses. If that was not enough to spark improvement, many users did not have the ability to update items to reflect a status change. Enter the bucket system.
Bucket 'Pop Up' List
In the bottom right hand corner of the Tracker system is a pop up option titled 'Bucket List'. To enable this pop up select the + (plus) sign that is in the image.

Clicking on the Bucket List icon will display a menu of several commonly used features of the Tracker system.
Options available on the Bucket List menu:
- Print Labels with selected Items Begin the process of printing barcode labels for items
- Check out selected items Begin the item check out process
- Check in selected items Begin the item check in process (non temporary items)
- Check in selected temporary items Begin the temporary item check in process
- Move selected items Begin the process of moving items from one location to another
- Dispose selected items Begin the process of item disposition
- Add items to bucket Add selected items to a bucket list
- Add items to new ticket Add selected items to a new ticket
- View bucket View all items in your virtual bucket list(s)
- Empty bucket Empty items from the 'Main bucket'
Creating New Bucket (Virtual) List(s)
We are going to assume that you already know how to check items in / out, print labels and complete item dispositions. For more information on these functions visit those sections in the Wiki guide.
To get started with the bucket system we need to create list(s) that items will be applied too.
- Open the bucket list
- Click the option in the bucket list menu to 'View Bucket'.

This shows the default 'Main List'. Before we can add items to a list we must create the list(s). Click the 'Create New List' button to start creating your lists.
You can see in this example, I created several lists which will hold item information.
Suggestion: Create list names with very specific information. A good name would be 'Follow Up 12312009'. A bad name would be 'Follow Up Next Week'. The latter will not tell you exactly when the items need to be reviewed while the former gives you an exact date.
Select Items to Process
Now that you know what the bucket system is and how to access the features, let's take a look at how to process items. The first thing we need is a list of items. There are many places in the system where a list of items are shown. Some common examples would be the View Tab, My Items Tab, Quick Search, Advanced Search, ETC.
To process items, simply click the check box next to the item(s) to process, click the bucket + (plus) sign, and then select the bucket feature you want to use. This will take the checked items and begin the selected process.
Adding Items to a Bucket List
Now that we have created our bucket lists it is time to start processing transactions using the list. For this example I am going to use the View tab to select items for placement on the bucket list.
- Select the items by placing a check box next to each item (I selected items 1, 3, 5 & 7)
- Open the bucket pop up list
- Select the option 'Add Items to Bucket'
- Select from the drop down menu, the available list you wish to use
- When done you will get a pop up menu confirming your placement of the items on the list
- From the bucket pop up menu select 'View Bucket'
You can see that the four items I added to my list are now showing under the selected option. To view the items in that list, click the magnifying glass next to the desired list. This will bring up a summary of that list with all items that are a part of the list.
Removing Items from a list
Removing items from any list is very easy.
- Select the list you want to modify by clicking the magnifying glass next to the list
- When the selected list is displayed at the bottom of the screen, simply select the items for removal and click 'Remove Items from this list'
Add items to a ticket
The bucket lists are specific to each user, no other use can see your list(s). So, how do you provide another user with a specific list of items that you have in your bucket list.
- Navigate to your bucket list that shows all the items you want to send that user
- Select the items you want to pass along to another user
- Click the bucket pop up menu
- Select the option to add items to a new ticket
- Create the ticket for that new user and submit the ticket
- They will get the ticket that will show all the items in that ticket
- That person can select all those items and click the bucket pop up menu and add those items to a bucket they created
Populating other lists with a list
Now that you have a list of items in your bucket list you can do much more from here. Just like the view tab has check boxes next to each item so does your list of items in the bucket list. You can select this items and then perform bucket list transactions on them. If you wanted you could take every item from one list and populate another list
